What Happened in the Final Episode of The Sopranos
An explanation.
As shown by an August 27, 2014 Vox article, the previously most important idea of what happened in the final episode of The Sopranos was not really the way the show's creator saw it...

The first episode of the final season of The Sopranos was titled “Members Only” and at the end of the first episode Uncle Junior shot Tony. An important connection was the label "members only" and the shooting of the misidentified person Tony! And A.J. was further identified (or misidentified) by what the monologue in the opening sequence said: as he took a picture of himself with his cell phone.

Two questions that might have come to mind were: Whose thinking was being reflected by the monologue at the opening of the first episode and what was the significance of someone being identified or misidentified in The Sopranos?

The meaning of the monologue might have been: That Tony’s thought process was reverting to what the show’s creator labeled “members only” and we got an example of the significance of this when “member” Uncle Junior shot Tony. Uncle Junior’s misidentification and shooting of Tony in the first show of the last season foreshadowed what was going to happen to Tony in the final episode...

The most important thing about the final episode was that A.J. walked into Holsten’s restaurant almost arm-in-arm with the assassin wearing the "Members Only" jacket.

If we remembered back to our days in Freudian dream interpretation class we would recall that in Freud’s Interpretation of Dreams, characteristics of one person could sometimes be shown by another or many other people in a dream:  This Freudian concept was being used in this episode of The Sopranos, where the assassin wearing the "Members Only" jacket was identified by Tony with A.J.  Just like Uncle Junior saw Tony as an assassin Tony saw A.J. as an assassin. The same way that Uncle Junior was a shooter so was Tony.

Whatever people might have thought of the screen going black, the black screen might have simply signified a black day in the history of the Soprano family, the same way the banner of a newspaper might have been black to signify a sad event, or the way someone might wear a black arm band to signify something... & etc.

Cartridges
How the scratchy writing experience of the Faber-Castell Ondoro pen cartridge was changed to the silky smooth luxury of the evenly flowing Montblanc cartridge:

The Faber-Castell cartridge was shorter then the Montblanc's and trimming the Montblanc cartridge's plastic end cap to the Faber-Castell size allowed the altered Montblanc cartridge to function in the Faber-Castell body...
